With fairly low overall operating costs and two built in management utilities, this 2005 model, theLanier LD-120, remains a convenient print and copy option for small office settings. Its multifunctional design allows for expandability options such as a fax modem, while including many great features right out of the box such as true PC / internet faxing.
Network scanning is also functional in the Lanier LD-120 and can be used as not only a great convenience, but as a way to reduce operating costs as well. With the ability to share documents more quickly and directly to an e mail address in either PDF or TIFF format, the cost of sending a fax is virtually eliminated. If fully functional fax operation is desired, however, the Lanier LD-120 has an optional fax module that includes a 33.6 Kpbs modem that is G3 compatible. It can scan a document in only 1.2 seconds and comes with an assortment of convenient fax features.
A fax memory of 160 pages can help to store important data while the printer is currently occupied, and a 1 hour memory backup is crucial for preventing data loss in the event of a power outage, or even when relocating the machine itself. 32 one touch keys are dedicated onto the Lanier LD-120's hardware for single touch speed dialing, while up to 150 total speed dials can be stored and accessed via abbreviated codes. Group dials can also be stored in the unit's memory with up to 100 numbers per group and up to ten groups total. The unit can even transmit a ledger fax.
For scanning and printing, an optional module must be purchased as well to activate the features. Print speeds will then run at up to 21 pages per minute and resolutions for both printing and scanning top out at a very limited 600 x 600 dots per inch. The module comes equipped with its own built in memory totaling 192 MBs, and it also includes an Ethernet interface as well as a standard USB 2.0 port. Other optional interfaces include a wireless LAN setup, a parallel port, and a Bluetooth receiver.
As a stand alone copy machine, the Lanier LD-120 can still maintain acceptable speed and quality when compared to today's machines. Its first copy out time of less than 6.5 seconds is admirable, and its built in memory of 16 MBs should be more than enough when the machine is used exclusively as a copy machine. There is a version of the model, the Lanier LD-120d, that includes a built in duplexor which can reduce paper costs by virtually half.
Special copy features include various exposure modes (auto, manual, and photo) and an auto tray switching feature that rapidly switches back and forth between letter and legal size output. Thanks to digital copy technology, features such as image rotation and scan one / print many are also available, which keeps the Lanier LD-120's current value relevant, even by the high standards of today.
